Vancouver Entrepreneur Provides Home Organization and Storage Solutions

On path to business ownership, Terry Yakiwchuk finds Tailored Living featuring PremierGarage franchise

Terry Yakiwchuk spent more than 30 years in sales and logistics at a soft drink manufacturer. Today, he is the owner of Tailored Living featuring PremierGarage of Vancouver, a business specializing in custom home organization and storage solutions.

Prior to opening his own business, Yakiwchuk spent most of his career in Manitoba until an opportunity arose which moved him to Vancouver.

“I spent about three years in Vancouver, and then some changes started happening at the company,” said Yakiwchuk. “I came to the cross road of retiring or doing something different.”

So after 32 years in the corporate world, Yakiwchuk began to explore his options. Armed with a career’s worth of business knowledge, Yakiwchuk felt he had the skills to be able to manage his own business.

“Franchise ownership piqued my interests,” Yakiwchuk recalls.

Pursuing this interest, Yakiwchuk was introduced to Grant Bullington, a franchise consultant of FranNet Western Canada. Bullington works with prospective business owners to aid them in their search for a franchise business that is the right fit for them. Working with Bullington, Yakiwchuk took a Entrepreneur Profile, a sort of personality test of his business acumen. The assessment looks at a person from many facets, including their behaviour profile, risk tolerance and financial background.

“I had made the decision that I didn’t want to get back into the corporate world. I wanted to do something for myself,” said Yakiwchuk.“I decided I was interested in franchise business ownership because of the infrastructure and the support they can provide.”

From the assessment, Bullington matched Yakiwchuk’s profile with a few different franchise companies that aligned with his strengths and goals. After performing research on each, Yakiwchuk began to focus on Tailored Living featuring PremierGarage.

“I’ve always enjoyed designing and building things, and I thought this business would be a lot of fun,” said Yakiwchuk. “I was interested in doing something that I understood. I didn’t want to get in to a business that I did not have any experience in.”

Yakiwchuk says that his understanding of design and construction combined with his background in sales and customer service made the Tailored Living featuring PremierGarage franchise a great fit for what he was looking for. His business offers a whole organizational package to clients, plus a detailed supplier chain, national partnerships and proprietary software for home designs.

Since opening in 2013, Yakiwchuk says it’s been going well.

“Ultimately, it is rewarding doing custom work for clients that meets their space needs and provides organization solutions that work to make their life or business easier. Tailored Living is a great fit for my skills and my desire for a second career,” concluded Yakiwchuk.
